Today was a good day. I got up a little later than I would have wished, but not detrimentally so. I took the tube over to St. Paul's and looked at the massive church, but decided I didn't want to go in, and so headed straight across the Millennium Bridge. It is definitely my favorite bridge so far, as the view from it is spectacular, with St. Paul's on one bank, Tate Modern and the Globe on the other, with sights along down the river, including the Tower Bridge. It also was nice and sunny today which was lovely.
The Tate Modern reminds me a lot of MoCA in that it seems to have been an old factory now converted into a contemporary arts museum. It is much more established though to be sure. I really like most of the exhibits there, though there were a few unneccissarily disturbing pieces. One thing I stumbled upon was a piece by Joseph Beuys that I would SWEAR was at MoCA last summer. The easiest way to describe it is a lead, demented Christmas tree and terds. There was also a Rauschenberg and Keifer there too, as well as lots of other artists I liked but didn't know previously. There was also one Monet, which was somewhat strange, but it was a very large one and definitely fit in in it's own way.
I payed to get into the Futurism exhibit (10.20 pounds) but so worth it! I am so in love with Futurism. Well, Italian Futurism. None of this Russian futurism, and Cubist fussion. Bocconi (sp?) and Carra had some of the best pieces in there. They were so amazing. It was wonderful to see all these paintings in person that I'd read and heard about so much. I wanted to stay in there forever, but there's only so long you can stare at something in one sitting, so eventually I left and looked at the rest of the museum.
On my way home, I stopped at Sainsbury to pick up some lunch/dinner esk grocieries and was shocked when I only spent 11.42 pounds! It was partly because the ramen I bought was 9p each!!! (For you Yanks, that's about 15 cents each). So, I could totally hole up in my room now if I wanted, not that that's what I'm planning on doing. London is too much fun. I was also pleased to realize that my gladiator sandals stood up to a few hours of gallerying without chaffing my feet at all. Hooray!
I was then very productive. I wrote my reading response and finished Howard's End. Now I have barely any work for the rest of the week. :) Sigh. Means I may finally get around to a model for Oren and reading the play for Gary. But still, it's nice to be ahead of the curve work wise. Now I'm having a cup of soup and a roll. mmmmmm....
